Watchdog Task Manager Lite
Stop killing your apps randomly. Start monitoring them with Watchdog.
NOTE: There is an Android issue where Watchdog might crash upon launching after an upgrade. It seems to be related to the upgrade of the app while the old version happens to be executing in the background. It doesn't affect your phone's operation at all. If this happens, re-launch and goto the menu and hit restart for proper monitoring.
Package verification problems: If you installed the Lite version via the Amazon app store, you'll have to upgrade it there(should be available shortly), or uninstall and reinstall the market version. This will solve your problem.
You don't need a task killer. But you do need a way to make sure a background app doesn't lose control and eat up all your CPU. Watchdog monitors your apps and alerts when one loses control, allowing you to kill just that single app. Killing apps blindly can cause them to stop working as designed, and most app developers won't even take a bug report from you if you are using a task killer!
From Android 2.2 on, the kill command works only on background apps, and they will likely restart immediately. Watchdog removes the app immediately from the list, since there isn't feedback about whether it was successful. Having lots of apps running doesn't hurt your phone at all unless they are doing something. In fact, killing an app and having it immediately restart simply consumes your phones resources. If you just leave the apps running, they will start immediately when you want to go back to it.
The paid version has all the features of the lite, removing the ads, while adding a “blacklist” feature. This allows you to pick a single app that is constantly misbehaving and assign a CPU % threshold to it. When that app exceeds the threshold, it will be automatically killed.
So stop blindly killing all your apps; be smart by managing them instead. Good for all versions of Android.

- Been using this for a month now, before I installed this my phone always ran super slow and I had problems opening any apps. First day my phone ran super fast, apps only took like a sec to open. I love playing games, without watchdog I wouldn't get to play angry birds or listen to music. I recomend this program to anyone who uses their phone several hours a day everyday.

- Have been using free version of this app for several months now and so far so good. Whether some process or app causes spikes, Watchdog always notifies about it which allows me to suspend the app/process in question from wasting system resources and maintain optimal performance of my device.
- Unlike other task killers, this extends battery life. Instead of killing apps android needs running in the back ground, this app supports the android ecosystem and notifies you when an app is hogging the battery. This works side by side android and is a great way of exyltending battery life
- as my notice, after used many task killers. after killing tasks u may see more RAM availble but it doesn't mean speed up cuz many tasks start to consume RAM again. watchdog's better ,smoother eventhough u might see less RAM available but it work. (i prefer "aggresive" in setting)
- Forget task killers - they eat up ur battery and really arnt that great!! This app however is so accurate and amazing. Let's me know when an app goes crazy so I can kill it. Everyone should have this. Battery life is so much better. And I don't have to think abt it.
- This app made me find the reason why my phone was running so hot and had only 4hours of battery life. Thanks to the app makers for making such an useful tool. Watchdog is a sniper rifle, instead of the shotgun many other task managers are!
- This is the best app I've found that monitors/manages other apps. It doesn't kill my battery like many others, it doesn't use a lot RAM, and it only kills the apps you want it to. It also alerts you if an app is using a lot of memory.
- Handy as heck, always lets me know if an app is hogging precious cpu cycles in the background. Allows you to quickly "kill" offending apps, blacklist apps, etc. The lite version does everything I need.
- So much more effective than app killers. Gives you a heads up when an app passes a threshold of phone processor usage (meaning the app has potentially gone rampant), then lets you kill that app.
