GTalkSMS

Control your phone through GTalk / XMPP.

Note: GTalkSMS is not a chat client, its a service on your android phone that connects to GTalk/XMPP and waits for special commands and informs a GTalk/XMPP account about new SMS Messages / Incoming Calls / Battery State / etc.

  • Start the application remotely by sending a SMS with "GTalkSMS" body then locate your phone, erase data or take photo if your phone has been stolen.
  • Receive and send SMS from a GTalk/XMPP conversation.

Search for

  • contacts from GMail or Exchange,
  • old SMS,
  • call logs.
  • Start GMap, Google Street view or Google navigation from an address entered in a GTalk/XMPP conversation.
  • Copy text to android clipboard or text boxes from your PC with a real keyboard.
  • Get your Android phone clipboard.
  • Execute shell commands.
  • Receive notifications from incoming SMS or incoming calls.
  • Dial a contact on your phone.
  • Mark SMS as read.
  • Make your phone ring.
  • Make your phone send you geolocalization links (GMap links) to track down your phone.

Widget and a notification icon are also available.

Sometimes Jabber doesn't work. It's mostly due to the Jabber server, then please don't blame GTalkSMS.

  • I had previously toyed with the idea of remote control, but it doesn't work if i do not root my Galaxy S2 and i couldn't get a incoming connection with my 3G plan. I am now using gtalksms to access my phone during the times when i do not have access to it. The idea of using a Instant Messaging framework alleviates itself from hosting expensive servers, and allows users to access their phone from any desktop. That's nifty. Good app that deserved a donation from me. Do keep up the good work and i hope this app runs smoothly on ICS when the update comes for Galaxy S2. :)
  • I've never written an app review before, but this is by far one of the most useful apps I have ever encountered. There are several others that do similar things, but I find myself usually using this one. I highly recommend this to everyone with an Android. My only criticism is that the name could be a little more appropriate/accurate.
  • Just GREAT !!! Had been using TalkMyPhone from the same guys, this one is just got 3 notch better with additional controls for my phone, right form Gtalk :-) One request - add SMS delete as a feature too!
  • With this app I can do 90% of what I want it to do. Most of the time it works well, but there are a few annoyances and bugs that need to be fixed. One of the best apps out there.
  • I've been using this app since it first came out and it has become simply indispensable on every Android device I've had. Use it every day at home and work. Great job!
  • No longer do I need to keep my phone near and worry about radiation. Can send receive sms from my im client. To get the full usefulness create separate im account.
  • When I get a new phone or do factory reset, this is the first app I install. Simply awesome. Great work guys. Is there something like this for iphone?
  • In use every day. More control over the phone would be good, but as a basis for sending SMS' from the keyboard it works superbly.
  • My absolutely most used app all day, works like a charm and best of all... Open Source/Free Software. Good job guys!
  • Thanks. A really nice and useful app. Sending sms via ichat on a mac works great.
