GPS Logger for Android
A lightweight, battery efficient GPS Logger. The purpose of this app is to log your GPS coordinates at specified intervals to a file on your SD card. This app runs in the background so that you can on a long walk, hike, flight ride or photo session or even go buy some milk and have this running as long as possible. Once you're back at your computer, you can then use the files to geotag photos, upload to travel sites, view in Google Earth and so on.

Notes
GPSLogger is not a MyTracks replacement. MyTracks is meant for short use (as it has a lot of features running), GPSLogger is meant to last a long time.
A data connection is used by this app only if you use auto-email or OpenStreetMap or Dropbox features.
Although the app allows 0 second frequencies, it is not recommended as the recording and logging is happening very fast; this could cause instability/hangs. Try 1-3 seconds instead.

- Explanation of permissions:
Storage - reading and writing files to the GPSLogger folder on your SD card
Network communication - used when uploading the files (Dropbox, Openstreetmap) or sending emails or authorizing you with Dropbox, Openstreetmap
Your location - used to determine your GPS or tower based location
System tools (automatically start at boot) - used if you choose to start GPSLogger on bootup
Your accounts - used when authorizing against Google Docs and when uploading to Google Docs

- I did a test run today. With my camera set to the exact same time/date as my phone it works great. Accuracy is a little off - up to 10m sometimes - but thats not a huge problem, and is more to do with the GPS inaccuracy. It can automatically upload the track to a number of places, including email and dropbox which is good for simplicty. Using Geosetter, you can easily import the GPX track and syncronise the photos (including RAW) with it. Just what I needed. :-)
- I've tried several apps, but this is nearly perfect for recording a track for photo geotagging. Works flawlessly on my Droid RAZR, easily going all day (with the battery upgrade) while logging every 10 seconds with 5 meter precision. The only improvement I've been able to think of is an option to not include data that I don't need in the log to reduce file size, but that's way down the list of desirable features. Kudos to the designers for this.
- I'm preparing a nationwide bicycle tour and have been searching for something just like this to map my route while not draining my phone's battery. I've been testing this for over a week and it's perfect for what I need. I am ftp'ing the gps files to a server which groups them together by dates (since it breaks the files into date names) to dynamically present the coordinates in a google map) Thanks!
- This is, by far, the best gps tracker I've used. I tried many different trackers, and some of them were ok, but this is the only one that I can count on to run all the time in the background without fail. I used to use it only as a backup and when out of network range, but now that it has Dropbox sync it is only tracker I need.
- This app does exactly what I need: simply create a log of GPS coordinates showing where I have traveled. It does so with a simple, fast interface. Another nice aspect is that I can run this program in the background while running another mapping program in the foreground (like Sygic).
- One thing that would make it more usable for me would be a hyphen (for MySQL) or space (for Excel/Gnumeric) instead of capital T between date and time. Text files, straight from the app, require some pre-processing for use with these programs.
- Works as described.. amaze4g. I use the ftp upload.. with some php to serv up my location on google maps. However maybe a paid version would be nice with option to run as a service .... appose to cluttering up the interface.
- ... what i was looking for: small, simple, easy to handle and configurable. Logs perfect to gpx, plain and other formats. Perfect Addition to combine with Lightroom or other Programs. THUMBS UP !!!
- Very good, no bloat and just all the necessary features. Suggestion: quicker (or configurable) fallback on cell towers when fail to get fix. Thanks for the great app!
- Feature suggestion: Add the ability to acquire location based on wifi essid. Maybe querying wiggle or by using a previous GPS fix when having that wifi in range.
