ExpenZa

ExpenZa takes the hassle out of budgeting by automatically keeping track of you transactions.

This is done by intercepting the expenditure SMS message sent by your bank and using its information to populate your transaction list. ExpenZa can also be used without a bank's SMS service by manually adding transactions.

Transactions to date can be compared to a user defined budget per category.

ExpenZa also has the following additional features:

  • Automatic categorization of transactions
  • Totals for monthly expenses, incomes, budget and accounts
  • Import old messages from SMS inbox
  • Notification when new transaction is recognised
  • Notification when unrecognized SMS is received from bank
  • Manual editing of transactions
  • Sorting of transactions and categories
  • Once Off Budget Amounts
  • Filtering by dates and categories
  • Multiple accounts
  • Export and import application data to SD card

The following South African banks are supported: ABSA, Capitec Bank, Discovery Card, First National Bank (FNB), GoBanking, Investec Bank, Nedbank, RMB Private Bank, Standard Bank, GoBanking.

In order for the automated expense tracking to work, you must have an account with one of the above banks, and you must be subscribed to their SMS notification service.

Please note that some SMS applications like Handcent SMS or GO SMS Pro may interfere with ExpenZa if they are set to override the default messaging application.

  • .... people who cannot budget. Catagorise every amount you spend during the month then look under the budget icon and bingo, you have a view of what you spend money on. Friggin hell, when I saw the amount I spent on wine and dine! Now I know what happens to the bucks I can't recall spending :O Nice job guys! And yes, you can set it to start calculating from payday. Default is set to the 1st but you can change it.
  • This app is brilliant. Gives me a good idea of how I am spending my money by giving me an audit trail of my expenses in one neat view. Would be nice if it allowed reporting like pie charts of expenditure categories and a approximate balance of my funds (leaving provision of bank charges). Great job guys
  • It reads your sms reports to automatically add expenses and keep track against your budget. Takes just a few minutes to set up your budget if you know what you want and thereafter you can almost leave it to do it's job by itself. Very nice way of keeping track of your budget.
  • My first ever app rating - I feel this one deserves it. A free app that works absolutely amazingly... such a help to my finances. Easy to use and very well put together. Thanks guys we really appreciate it !
  • Thank you for this great app! I am with Capitec and it captures the smses without any issues. Would it be possible to add the function that it sees the incoming money too (salary, rental income etc.)?
  • This app is brilliant. Soon they will have some pay version or something they can make money with. Please make it cheap and a once of payment and not a subscription.
  • You've done this app well man. Had a look at some other solutions and your take on getting the user perspective is working in your favour. Great application
  • I've downloaded a few budgeting apps but this is the absolute best...easy to use, no fancy pie charts, you just see what you need to.. great app.
  • This is so amazing, I get an sms on my transaction and it works, no fuss at all! I would honestly pay for this app! Proudly South African!
  • Excellent app, especially considering it's free. I would like graph our pie chat functionality as well. Brilliant that it's so effortless
