Tuner - DaTuner (Lite!)

DaTuner (Lite) is an all-purpose, precise and responsive chromatic tuner app for android with a simple interface.

DaTuner converts the fundamental frequency to the nearest note and error in cents for quick and easy tuning of your guitar, ukelele, violin, bass, cello, mandolin, piano, harp, saxophone, Ducati timing belt, harmonica, kazoo, you name it.

DaTuner's display is easy to read; nearest note and octave is displayed in a giant, easy to read font in the center of the screen, and frequency in hertz plus error in cents is displayed at the bottom of the screen. Sensitivity is auto-adjusted, but can also be adjusted by touch via a bar on the left-hand side of the screen, and the speed/accuracy of the algorithm and the relative frequency (if other than 440Hz) can be adjusted via the configuration menu.

There is no "dead zone" with this tuner app as is the case with many other apps. Instead, the whole display turns green when the incoming frequency is within a configurable range of the target frequency and you can still see small changes in pitch even within the "in-range" area. Both the "in-tune" range and the colours shown for sharp and flat can be configured in this version.

Screen and filter lock allow you to select the note that you would like to tune to, with filter lock ignoring anything outside of the range of the note you wish to tune, which is useful for tuning in noisy environs.

  • I have been tuning my Mom's piano (as an amateur) for several years with nothing but a single tuning fork, starting by tuning the "bearings" (interval F to C) as best I could, then rolling this out octave by octave up and down the keyboard, listening for "beats/second" between various intervals as quality control checks. Never again will I tune it this old fashioned way now that I have found this app! This app is SO intuitive, responds with immediate visual feedback-- as I tune each string the bar graph moves instantly left or right to show me how far out of tune each string is, and the color turns green when I have it tuned perfectly, within a fraction of a second it adapts, continuously displaying the note/octave and associated frequency for whatever key I have pressed. This allows me to tune so quickly and accurately that I was able to tun my Mom's piano this past weekend in about 1/3 the time that it usually takes me. The app works completely hands free--never had to touch my phone! Not only that, but the piano sounds better than it has EVER sounded!!!   • I rarely "need" it, (usually use a built-in tuner for guitar) but I found out just how versatile this app is when I needed a Mic'ed tuner to tune a piano. A $28 wrench, this app, spare time and now that piece of abused junk sounds like a piano again! Thanks dev.
  • I am amazed at how accurate this tuner is. It rivals workbench "strobe" tuners you find in professional guitar repair shops. And that's just the free version! This company certainly deserves my money for this product and I will be purchasing it soon!
  • I have no idea why this app has 1 or even 2 star rating. The app is free, easy to use, works well an nearly all music shops sell tuners when this is free. You have to be crazy to hate on this app.
  • This app totally defines simplicity. The tuner is almost as accurate as the individual tuning devices, the difference being negligible. Makers of the app can take a bow.
  • This by far the simplest most accurate tuner I've ever used in the 15 years I've been playing guitar. I'm not that good so having a perfectly tuned guitar helps.
