DataSwitch
DataSwitch is a simple app that toggles mobile data (edge/2G/3G/4G) access. Small, terminates itself, not a widget and doesn't consume resources once it's done.
The app uses a direct method of turning data on/off instead of changing the APN settings and appears to be more effective on some phones like my Samsung Captivate (Galaxy S).
Notes
- Be aware that if you used another app that changes the APN to turn off data, you will need to use the same app to turn it back on.
- If you're currently connected via WiFi, it may detect the mobile data as disabled which means the app will always try to enable it.
- Seems to work for Honeycomb (emulator), but untested on a real device.

- After hunting through numerous apps that claim to turn 3G on and off and finding that most don;t work or require a two step process, I found this app for my Droid Incredible and it works. It turns on the 3G network with one click and then turns it off when you click again. My only suggestion would be for it to chang color when turned on, but it is easy enough to look at the notification bar to see the current status. It is an app, not a widget, in case you install it and can't find it.
- Really cool app which I was looking for. Having apps which turns on data based on time, location etc are eating up my battery, and other widgets which rename the APN to disable data are crappy (uninstalling causes issues and have to edit the APN manually) and widgets too consume battery. Great work! (just removing the debugs method1 and method2 will be fine). Not expecting any more features which will spoil this lovely little app.
- This little app saves a tremendous amount of power! My battery was down to 50% by the end of the day. Now it's at 95%! I thought I had a virus! Tomato u rock!!!
- Wigets steal resources, this does not. Click to toggle on/off. Great for Bionic cuz it uses data & wifi at same time and eats battery! Thank you!!!!
- Neat! I like. Efficiently designed, resources wise. Seems to have issues on my Bravo though, disables but then later data is somehow back on. Ideas?
- An app that actually works...a must have to fight against the on going battery draining battle...need to distinguish between on/off on icon....
- Yep, works perfect on sgs2. The best one I've tried, does its job right no hassle. Very simple and efficient, much better than a widget.
- When used regularly, it can and does essentially triple my battery life, data shuts off, texts still come through ... a+!
