This app gives you updates and alerts for the short-term Aurora Borealis (and Aurora Australis) forecast from the University of Alaska Fairbanks Geophysical Institute. Great for knowing when to get outside to see the northern lights.
Aurora Buddy Pro can look at the current weather so it will only alert you when the viewing conditions are best - no more being alerted when the sky is too cloudy to see anything! Additionally, Aurora Buddy Pro can use your current location to set the alert level - no more guessing at what level you need in order to see the Aurora!
You can view the most recent satellite data for both the North and South poles, as well as the most recent short term predictions on a map for 5 areas (Do a long press on the image to select.)

IMPORTANT: If you use any task-killing software, make sure Aurora Buddy Pro is in the ignore list. Also, always exit the app with the "home" button rather than the "back" button!

I downloaded this "Pro" app because I wanted to support development of this already great app. It alerts me when the Aurora strength is at the appropriate strength for my location, and tells me if it's worth going outside due to weather conditions. Unfortunately, I have yet to be in the right place at the right time to be able to see an Aurora, but that is at no fault of the app, just my geographical time and location. Initially, when I downloaded the "Pro" app, I had a few FC issues, but these were fixed remarkably fast by Dave upon sending a crash report to him. Dave said that any crash reports sent to him make it a lot easier to track down the issue. Any issues I had were usually fixed within 24 hours, sometimes only a few hours. It has been working perfectly ever since. :-) To all the people who have rated the app low. Stop complaining, and start making this app better by sending in crash reports!! One man development is tricky, and is only possible with the help of app users. Big thanks to Dave for this fantastic app!

- Bought this app for a trip to North Finland. Managed to get alerts set which was very useful. However, that was more through luck than judgement. I'm sure the Help makes perfect sense if you already know what you're doing but isn't very helpful for someone using the app for the first time. Most of the screens contain very technical graphs and data so again, a bit more help would be useful if only to give an overview of what they mean. Other reviews have reported that it doesn't update- I did NOT have that problem, the updates always worked okay for me. Installed on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone.
